Original 1947 AP wire photo combining portraits of two prosecution witnesses in the court-martial of Navy Chief Signalman Harold E. Hirshberg. Former Army Private William R. Hill identified Hirshberg as the informer who disclosed an escape attempt to Japanese guards, resulting in three Americans being captured and tortured, with one later dying. Former POW George N. Gaboury testified that Hirshberg identified American prisoners in work gangs to Japanese guards and had them beaten. Both captions are printed directly on the photo, and an AP stamp appears on the back. Measures approximately 6⅜" × 9". Tape remains on the corners, with visible emulsion loss and expected age-related wear. From the archive of a Pittsburgh-area newspaper.
