Original AP wire photo documents a prairie fire near Highmore, South Dakota. The aerial view shows a barn and windmill amid blackened ground, plowed fields, and smoldering farmhouse ruins. The separate typed caption, dated September 6, says the fire swept the area the previous day and identifies the ruined farmhouses as belonging to bachelor brothers Paul and Ernest Gallogly, who lived 16 miles from Highmore. The caption is taped to the bottom of the photograph; some text is faint and affected by tape. Tape is also visible at the corners, with staining, edge wear, surface scuffs, and a patch of paper or emulsion loss near the lower center. An Associated Press Wirephoto stamp appears on the reverse. Measures approximately 8⅛ x 7½ inches. From the archive of a Pittsburgh area newspaper.
