Lifeboats are shown being lowered from the U.S. Coast Guard cutter Bibb as crews prepared for another trip to the disabled aircraft, with several previously rescued survivors visible aboard the cutter. The original caption identifies this as the first photograph of the rescue operation released by the Coast Guard. The caption is separate and mounted partly over the lower edge of the photograph, with both mounted on black archival paper. Measures approximately 8¼ x 7 inches overall.
