Original 1947 AP wire photo showing the Coast Guard cutter Bibb standing beside the disabled Bermuda Sky Queen flying boat during rescue operations 820 miles off the Newfoundland coast. The image was enlarged from 35mm film taken aboard a westbound Pan American Constellation and required extensive period retouching because the original figures were out of focus. The separate caption and photo are mounted together on black archival paper. Measures approximately 9x7⅞ inches. Note the tape on the corners and typical newsroom/archive wear. Came from the archive of a Pittsburgh-area newspaper.
