Original 1947 AP Wire Photo capturing the traditional cap toss by the graduating class of the U.S. Naval Academy in Dahlgren Hall, Annapolis, Maryland. The image shows the celebration after 494 members of the graduating class took their oaths as Ensigns and received their diplomas from Secretary of the Navy James Forrestal. The separate original AP caption is included. The reverse bears an AP stamp. Photo measures approximately 8¼ x 6¾ inches. Condition is very good overall with minor corner and edge wear, light surface wear, and a few small handling creases typical of vintage newsroom photographs. The caption shows age toning and is attached with aging tape. From the archive of a Pittsburgh area newspaper.
