Original 1947 Associated Press wire photo showing Mrs. Gilbert Mower weeping as she examines a plaque honoring her son, Sergeant Charles E. Mower. Mower received the Medal of Honor and was killed in combat on Leyte during World War II. His parents traveled from Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, to Seattle for a ceremony during which a U.S. Army transport was renamed U.S.A.T. Mower in his honor. The caption is printed directly on the photo. Measures approximately 7 by 5 inches. Please note the vintage tape on the corners, along with creasing, edge wear, and surface wear. From the archive of a Pittsburgh-area newspaper.
