Original sixth plate daguerreotype portrait of a dashing young gentleman with a well-groomed chin curtain beard, carefully styled hair, lightly hand-tinted cheeks, and striking, sharply focused eyes. He wears a dark coat, waistcoat, crisp white shirt, and oversized bow tie, creating a classic 1840s appearance. Housed in a pressed wood case covered in embossed material, with different floral motifs on the front and back, suggesting a marriage of two period case halves. The spine shows an old repair, the latch is present, and very old seals remain, though they do not appear original. Fitted with an early oval mat and no preserver. Please see photos.
