Antique 1/6 plate (approximately 2¾ × 3¼") daguerreotype photo of a distinguished gentleman with subtle hand tinting to the cheeks and a strong dark vignette surrounding the sitter. The portrait has excellent clarity and contrast with very sharp detail to the gentleman's face, clothing, hair, and pose. The darker vignetted background gives the image a much stronger visual presentation than many standard daguerreotypes from the period.
The image is housed in a pressed wood "Bouquet of Flowers" case design with both the hinge and spine present. It retains an early octagonal brass mat and has been professionally resealed. The interior velvet pad remains present with expected wear from age. The daguerreotype itself shows scattered tarnish spots, light surface marks, and normal age-related wear consistent with its age and storage history.
The case exterior shows edge wear, scuffs, and areas of surface loss from handling over the years, but overall it presents very well and displays nicely. Please review all photos carefully for overall condition details and completeness.
