This magnificent antique 1850s 1/2 plate (5½x4¼") Daguerreotype portrait photo of a Victorian family of eight is by renowned daguerreotypist Charles H. Williamson of Brooklyn, New York. It comes in its original full wood composite case. The case is 6x5¾x¾'' overall.
Charles H. Williamson (1826-1874) was a highly regarded Scottish-born daguerreotypist active in Brooklyn, New York, primarily during the 1850s and 1860s. Before becoming a daguerreotypist, Williamson was a skilled watercolorist. He is celebrated as a master of the daguerreian era, particularly known for his delicate hand-coloring of plates and his portraits of children.
There are a couple of light scuffs and wear on the exterior of the case. The image has been professionally resealed. Please see photos.
