This 1/6th plate daguerreotype features a distinguished gentleman posed in formal attire with prominent sideburns, a dark coat, waistcoat, and necktie. His direct gaze, distinctive hairstyle, and well-defined facial features create a striking mid-19th century portrait. The image retains good contrast and detail, with scattered spotting, tarnish, and age-related wear visible throughout.
The daguerreotype is housed in the remaining half of its original case. An attractive early gilt mat surrounds the image, and the case exterior features an embossed design that appears to depict a floral basket surrounded by decorative scrollwork. The original latch remains present. The case exhibits wear, finish loss, and handling marks consistent with age and use.
