This antique 1850s Daguerreotype photo of a Victorian gentleman comes in half of a 1/6 plate (2¾x3¼") wood composite case. The case is 3⅛x3⅝x⅜'' overall. The front door is missing. The photographer's mark on the mat is that of George M. Howe, who was a Portland native and one of the city's most active daguerreotypists between 1840 and 1860. He is recognized for his high-quality portrait work, which earned "honorable mention" at local exhibitions for being among the most beautiful in the world. There are a couple of light scuffs and wear on the exterior of the case. Original seals are intact. Please see photos.
