Original sixth plate daguerreotype portrait of a gentleman dating to the 1850s with attractive original hand tinting to his cheeks. He wears a dark coat, waistcoat, crisp white shirt, and bow tie, with distinctive full sideburns and a swept hairstyle characteristic of the period. Housed behind a decorative brass mat and preserver in a leather half case with an embossed geometric design and original brass latch. Professionally resealed. The interior of the case contains a page of antique printed text used as a liner. There is light age-related surface wear consistent with the process, but the portrait displays excellent contrast and pleasing detail. Please see photos.
