Original 1947 AP wire photo showing Brooklyn Dodgers outfielder Marvin Rackley sliding into second base during a game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Pirates infielder Ed Basinski fields the ball in time to begin a double play as umpire Lou Jorda makes the call. Rackley's cap is captured flying through the air during the slide. The original caption is attached to the front of the photo. Measures approximately 16" x 11" and shows edge wear, creasing, tape, and handling consistent with age and newspaper use.
