The original AP caption states that four people were killed instantly and a fifth later died from injuries sustained in the crash. Among the victims were George A. Lahti and his wife of Piedmont, California, their two young daughters, and Lido Geri of Redwood City, California. Authorities believed a tire blowout may have caused one automobile to cross into the path of the other.
