Original 1947 AP Wirephoto showing the wreckage of a fatal airplane crash in a cornfield near Coatesville, Pennsylvania. Residents examine the mangled aircraft after it was found following a return flight from Philadelphia, where the two men aboard had attended a night baseball game. The plane reportedly plowed through a wide swath of corn before stopping in a heap of twisted debris. Killed were owner and pilot Austin B. Eckenrode, 49, and Marlin Burd, 43. Separate original caption accompanies the photograph. Measures approximately 7½ x 6 inches. Note the tape remaining on the corners and typical newsroom/archive wear as pictured. This came from the archive of a Pittsburgh area newspaper.
