Original 1947 AP Wire Photo showing the wreckage of an Iowa National Guard aircraft after it crashed on Pikes Peak near Colorado Springs, Colorado. According to the separate original caption, the plane became lost in a blinding storm and crashed on Pikes Peak after flying about 60 miles past its destination at Denver. Three people were killed, while rescuers struggled through waist-deep snow to reach and save four survivors. The photograph and separate caption are mounted together on black archival paper. Measures approximately 8⅞x8 inches overall. Note the aged tape and typical newsroom/archive handling wear. This photo came from the archive of a Pittsburgh area newspaper.
