A sharp 1/6 plate daguerreotype portrait of a handsome young gentleman with wavy parted hair, a well-groomed chin curtain beard, and an oversized silk bow tie. His eyes are exceptionally crisp, and the image retains excellent contrast and detail. He is posed with one arm resting on a chair, wearing a dark coat, vest, and white shirt. Housed in a full pressed wood case with embossed exterior, featuring a decorative harp motif and marked "M.P. Brady, Case Maker, New York" on the front; the reverse is plain. The original brass preserver and latch are present. The back of the plate is sealed with old newspaper, an uncommon period technique. The case displays honest wear from age. Please see photos.
