Original 1/6 plate daguerreotype portrait dating to the 1840s, depicting a solemn gentleman wearing a soft felt hat, heavy overcoat, waistcoat, and necktie. His weathered face and direct gaze make for a striking portrait. The image retains good contrast and focus, with a few scattered spots from age. Housed behind an early brass mat with its original brass preserver in a full pressed wood case. The floral front and plain back suggest the case is likely a marriage. The spine has been professionally repaired, the image has been professionally resealed, the original latch is present, and the upper wooden edge of the front cover is missing a small section.
